Dr. Taufique Joarder is the Consultant, Human Resources for Health Policies and Standards Unit, Health Workforce Department, the World Health Organization (WHO); and an Associate Professor (Part-Time), Department of Public Health, North South University, Bangladesh. Before this, he was the Research Director of USAID’s Multisectoral Nutrition Implementation Research Project, FHI 360, Bangladesh. He was also an Assistant Professor, BRAC James P Grant School of Public Health, where he is currently an Adjunct Faculty. He is an Associate Faculty, Department of International Health (Health Systems Program), Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. He is also the Vice-Chairperson of Public Health Foundation, Bangladesh; and Associate Editor of BMC Globalization and Health journal. He completed a Doctorate in Public Health from the Department of International Health, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Before this, he obtained the Master of Public Health from BRAC University, with the highest distinction, winning the prestigious Allan Rosenfield Award. He also obtained a Diploma in International Health and Policy Evaluation from Erasmus University, Netherlands, and an MBBS degree from the University of Rajshahi, Bangladesh. His areas of interest include health policy, health systems, human resources for health, global health, nutrition policy, medical anthropology, mixed methods research, implementation science, and psychometrics. He has been teaching qualitative research methods, global health, and health policy and systems issues in the MPH course of different universities and professional short courses. He has over 26 peer-reviewed journal publications and seven book chapters. He speaks in the electronic media and regularly writes on health policy and systems issues in the Bangladeshi media and international blogsites/newsletters.

I am a Health Professions Clinical Educator with experience in HIV Pharmacotherapeutics, Herbal Medicine Pharmacovigilance, Clinical Trials and Pharmaceutical Regulation. I joined the University of Zimbabwe in 2007 as a part-time Graduate Teaching Assistant during my Masters studies. I was eventually offered a full time position in 2010 as Lecturer, and promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2019 following completion of my PhD studies. I currently teach HIV Pharmacotherapeutics to final year pharmacy students, as well the Pharmacovigilance modules on the Master of Applied Sciences program. My research interests lie in the safe integration of conventional and herbal medicine. I provide strategic research leadership for the unit, develop and monitor research agenda, develop resource streams for research activities, provide oversight for research-led teaching . I also mentor students in antiretroviral and herbal drug related research. In 2017, was granted a sabbatical to assist in the establishment of a Centre of Excellence for HIV treatment and care. In this role, I developed and oversaw the implementation of pharmaceutical care, pharmacovigilance, supply chain, training and research initiatives to improve the quality of care of HIV patients managed at the clinic. Prior to my full-time engagement with the University of Zimbabwe, I served as the Pharmacist of Record for the Microbicides Trial Network which developed clinical trial evidence for HIV prexposure prophylaxis (PrEP). In this role, I was responsible for import logistics for temperature sensitive investigational drug products, supply chain management for investigational drugs and standard of care medicines for three DAIDS HIV clinical research sites, as well as supervision of pharmacy staff at three sites. I am a budding public health leader, and have over the last five years, led various research and professional initiatives as a member of several national and international bodies including as a Young Pharmacists Liaison for the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) Natural Products Special Interest Group, a Councillor on the Pharmacists Council of Zimbabwe and member of the Medicine Control Authority of Zimbabwe Complementary Medicine and Laboratory Committees. I have also contributed to various national and global policy documents including the Zimbabwean guidelines for Zimbabwe national guidelines for the management of COVID-19, Zimbabwe One Health Antimicrobial Resistance National Action Plan and the Zimbabwe national HIV treatment guidelines.
